![]() Durability 8/10ĭipability: About the same as Tyson- they had more ‘hold points’. Again, these were not broken off of any dinosaurs. That being said, there were some weird breaded bits at the bottom of the bag- they may have been heads or tails at one point, but the breading made it hard to tell. Time 8/10ĭurability: In a bag of 30 dinosaurs, none had any broken pieces. The instructions said 11-13 minutes, and they’re good at that point, but I still prefer 20 minutes for optimum crunch. Time: Like Tyson’s fun nuggets, these benefitted from a 20 minute baking time. I could almost always tell heads from tails though, and could pick out specific dinosaurs. Some were very clear, others were more difficult to distinguish. Shape variety 10/10Ĭlarity of shapes: The shape clarity varied. The novelty of it was wonderful, and provided a good base for imaginative play. I counted at least 5 shapes, including a pterodactyl. Variety of shapes: This is probably the category where Yummy Dino Buddies shined the most. If you like sauce, I feel like you’d put a lot on these. ![]() Seasoning: They tasted primarily like fish sticks- they were pretty plain. It’s moist, which is nice, but the air bubbles throughout are a little hard to get around if you’re super texture-sensitive. I could definitely see some people describing them as mushy- but additional cooking time does help. Inner texture: They’re a little too spongy for me. Sort of the color of a McDonald’s nugget. The “points” on the shapes did turn slightly darker, and the golden brown wasn’t too bad honestly. Crispiness 8/10Ĭolor: The color did not change overall, even though I cooked it for 20 minutes. The breading does have a good crunch on the outside but the inner layer could be too moist for some. Wondering how your favorite brand stacks up? Here's her breakdown.Hello! I have finished testing my second brand of Dino Nuggets- Yummy Dino Buddies! Please see my earlier post for the grading criteria. We asked Gorin to apply her nutrition recommendations to 20 popular brands of frozen chicken nuggets, ranking them from best to worst. ![]() Gorin recommends looking for a brand that contains less than 20 percent of the daily value per serving of sodium and, for extra nutritional value, 20 or more percent of the daily value per serving of protein. Sodium and protein: Prepared packaged foods are often laden with sodium to preserve their shelf-life, and frozen chicken nuggets are no different."I also recommend looking for baked nuggets, versus fried ones, to cut down on the fat content." Breading: "Ideally the breading should be made with whole-grain ingredients such as whole-wheat flour or corn-or a starchy vegetable like potatoes," says Gorin.Quality of meat: Gorin prefers nuggets made with all white meat chicken instead of chicken byproducts and encourages consumers to buy ones made with humanely-raised chickens. When shopping for better-for-you frozen chicken nuggets, Amy Gorin, MS, RDN, a plant-forward registered dietitian nutritionist in the New York City area, says there are a few key things to pay attention to: How to shop for healthier chicken nuggets Like most other comfort foods, frozen chicken nuggets typically aren't healthy or good for you-but that doesn't mean you can never eat them! You just have to know what to look for when cruising the frozen food aisle. ![]() Unfortunately, they usually also scream "junk food." Packed with high amounts of fat and calories, plus all kinds of unnecessary ingredients and fillers, breaded frozen chicken nuggets are a far cry from their lean protein counterpart. Maybe it's the nostalgia from when you stood in line at your school cafeteria, but chicken nuggets scream "comfort food," whether it's from your local fast food joint or the freezer section of the supermarket. The best frozen chicken nuggets are tender-on-the-inside, crispy-on-the-outside, and pair perfectly with honey mustard and ketchup. It doesn't matter how old you are, few people can resist the temptation of a plate full of chicken nuggets. If you use these links to buy something, we may earn a
